Historic China vote cements Xi’s extended rule

Trump doubles down on attempt to eliminate term limits in US

China’s lawmakers on Sunday passed a historic constitutional amendment abolishing a presidential two-term limit that will enable Xi Jinping to rule indefinitely.

The results were read out over the public address system and flashed briefly on a screen in the hall. The delegates voted 2,958 in favor, with two opposed, three abstaining and one vote invalidated.

White House sources confirmed earlier Around the Block reports that President Trump has ordered aides to explore the potential of a similar move in the United States, and said the president was following the results closely.

In fact, Trump, in an uncharacteristic impulsive decision, flew to Beijing late Sunday night in order to personally congratulate Xi and to learn directly from Xi how he did  it.

Confirming the heretofore secret visit, the White House press office posted the following picture memorializing the congratulatory visit.

When reporters pointed out the picture was of Trump with Japanese prime minister Shinzō Abe, not Xi, the press office took down the Abe photo and put up the correct picture.

Referring to the picture mix-up, White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee “Colonel” Sanders, in an impromptu press gaggle, said, “Look, we inadvertently posted the wrong picture of President Trump congratulating Mr. Xi. It was an honest oversight. But face it, all Orientals look the same.”
