Sanders enlisting Jewish surrogates to keep momentum going

AROUND THE BLOCK

News with a Twist

Jerusalem Post: Sanders 1st Jew to Win Primary

Second Jewish milestone in 9 days

The Jerusalem Post, reporting on Bernie Sanders’s overwhelming Democratic primary victory in New Hampshire, ran its story under the headline “Sanders is first Jew to win presidential primary.”

Beyond the headline, The Post pointed out that the win in New Hampshire was the second Jewish miracle realized by Sanders, writing,  “The self-described democratic socialist achieved the milestone nine days after earning a smaller one, when he became the first Jewish figure ever to win delegates in a presidential primary.”

With Jews everywhere exultant at the news, the Sanders campaign is clearly not resting on its laurels, bringing out heavy hitter campaign surrogates to capitalize on the all-important Jewish vote.

Most notable of those surrogates was Sanders lookalike and fellow Brooklyn Jew, Larry David. In an appearance in South Carolina at the Mt. Pleasant Jewish Community Center, before a crowd estimated at 27 Jews, David began his remarks by saying, "They told me this was going to be the Mt. Zion Jewish Community Center. If I'd know it was Mt. Pleasant, I wouldn't have come." David then went on to rail at Jews who won’t vote for Sanders saying, “Bernie Sanders is prettttty, prettttttty pretttttttty good,” going on to tell the gathering that not voting for Sanders was a “shanda” and that “There’s a special place in hell for Jews who don’t help each other!”

Reports indicate that the Sanders campaign has reached out to other potential Brooklyn Jewish surrogates including Sandy Koufax, Woody Allen, Barbara Streisand, Mel Brooks, Jerry Seinfeld and Richard Dreyfuss, among others.

Jason Alexander, who has not been contacted reportedly kvetched, "Just because I'm from Newark doesn't mean I can't help."

(Correction: In an earlier edition of this article, we referred to Mr. David as a Sanders “doppelgänger,” not a “lookalike.” “Doppelgaänger” is a German mythological term and, as such, is not appropriate for an article about Jewish milestones. We apologize for our "facockeda" use of the term.)
