Did Cruz untrue rumors about Carson tilt Caucus?

Trump gets “schlonged” in Iowa

Cruz accused of unfair and unethical tactics

In the aftermath of Ted Cruz’s stunning victory over Donald Trump in Monday’s Iowa Caucuses, there is mounting evidence that, to use Trump’s own expression, he got “schlonged” by Cruz.

As has been widely reported, the Cruz campaign circulated a “rumor” among evangelical voters that Dr. Ben Carson was quitting the race and that his (Carson's) supporters should caucus for Cruz instead. Both Cruz and Carson are darlings of the religious right in Iowa.

Iowa’s Republican governor Terry Branstad, called the actions by the Cruz campaign “unethical and unfair” and suggested “there’ll be repercussions.” Branstad did not indicate what those “repercussions” would be, although he did not unequivocally rule out a "do-over."

While Cruz did apologize to Carson, he has derided Trump’s allegation that he committed fraud.

But Trump has not been alone in his condemnation of Cruz. Writing in Esquire, Charles Pierce agreed with Trump saying, “For all the Scripture he (Cruz) spouts, and for all of his devotion to our God-kissed Constitution, Cruz has the soul of a true ratf**ker.” Pierce, talking about Cruz’s unfettered ambition went on to say, “Cruz believes he is commanded to his (destiny) by the Lord.”

When asked for comments, Cruz’s spokesman for Christian affairs Billy Bob "Bubba" Powell (not be confused with Marco Rubio’s spokesman for Christian affairs Billy Bob "Bud" Powell) denied that the senator is a ratf**ker, going on to say, “Pierce is a shameless, faithless, non-believer, but he is right about one thing – Senator Cruz does believe that he is commanded to his just reward of the golden throne of the presidency by his Lord.”

Responding to a question as to whether, in this case, God actually commanded Cruz to spread the Carson rumors, Powell said he would seek guidance from "on high" and get back as soon as possible.
