Administration of vice presidential oath reveals he can talk  

The inauguration of Donald J. Trump as 45^th president of the United States was highlighted by one shocking event: Associate Justice of the Supreme Court, Clarence Thomas can actually speak.

Justice Thomas, who administered the oath of office to Vice President-elect Mike Pence, actually said the words of the oath out loud for Pence to repeat.

Given that Thomas, who famously never asks a question, or says anything, during Supreme Court sessions, today’s performance was something of a revelation.

Although it was known that Justice Thomas was going to administer the oath, it was believed that he would only hold the bible while Pence recited the words from memory.
