Cruz campaign uses porn star in ad
Vows to
remove ad in South Carolina
In an embarrassing
vetting oversight, the Ted Cruz campaign admitted today that it had used a
soft-core porn actress, Amy Lindsay, in a TV commercial, “Conservatives
Anonymous,” running in South Carolina.
Ms. Lindsay, who had answered
an open casting call, has appeared in several adult films including "Kinky
Sex Club," "The Erotic Traveler" and "Co-Ed
Confidential."
Cruz spokesperson, Brandi
Love, in an interview with MSNBC, said, “We did not think this ad, with Ms. Lindsay,
was appropriate for South Carolina audiences so we took it down.” Ms. Love went
on to say that “While the commercial might not be appropriate in South
Carolina, it is absolutely appropriate in Nevada where, not only will it run,
but will be the centerpiece of our media buy.”
Clearly disappointed by this turn of events, Ms. Lindsay, a fellow Texan, said she does not do hardcore pornography and is a conservative Christian currently deciding between Cruz and Donald Trump in the Republican primary.
While most of Cruz’s
competitors did not comment on an apparent error in judgment by the Cruz
campaign, Donald Trump did weigh in.
“I like Ted Cruz, but
this commercial is totally embarrassing, totally. I mean, no offensive, but if
you’re going to use a porn star, use a great one, a great one. While I love Amy
Lindsay, love her, let’s face it, she’s at best a “B” list porn star and
frankly not that hot.”
Trump went on to say,
“Look, Ted Cruz is not going to make America great again if he can’t even pick
a great porn star.”
Commenting on Cruz's decision to use the ad in Nevada and Trump's unkind words about her, Ms. Lindsay indicated that she has made up her mind and will not only vote for Ted Cruz, but actively campaign for him in "whatever venue the Cruz team deems appropriate."
