#TrumpSacrifices on fire. Campaign confusion over definition of "sacrifice."

News with a Twist

Trump defends attack on Khizr Khan by announcing his own sacrifices

"I gave up two more seasons of Celebrity Apprentice"

In the ongoing controversy following the Democratic National Convention speech of Khizr Khan, the father of a U.S. Muslim soldier killed in Iraq, contending that Donald Trump "sacrificed nothing" for his country, the Republican presidential nominee struck back, first suggesting that Hillary Clinton’s “script” writers wrote Mr. Khan’s speech and then delineating his own sacrifices for the country.

According to Trump, the list of sacrifices he’s made include:

·       "I work very, very hard.”
·       “Created thousands and thousands of jobs”
·       “Created “tens of thousands of jobs.”
·       “Employ thousands and thousands of people.”
·       “Take care of so many things.”
·       “Built great structures.”
·       “Had tremendous success.”
·       “I think I've done a lot."
·       “Responsible for getting the Vietnam Memorial built in NYC.”
·       “Raised millions of dollars for vets.”

When pressed that his list of sacrifices were not really sacrifices, Trump, in an interview with Wolf Blitzer on CNN said, “I’ve given up a tremendous amount to run for president. I gave up two more seasons of Celebrity Apprentice.”

The internet went wild with the hastag, #TrumpSacrifices, becoming one of the highest trending on Twitter.

In an attempt to control the damage caused by Trump’s “sacrifice tit-for-tat” the Trump campaign seemed to take the blame for his dubious definition of sacrifices.

According to Trump spokesperson Katrina Pearson, “We take responsibility for not providing Mr. Trump a clearer definition of the word ‘sacrifice’ as we were still using our one and only dictionary to try to determine the meaning of the word ‘obfuscation’ after Russian president Putin praised Mr. Trump for bringing the art of lying and obfuscation to a new level.
