Rubio wins BIG in Puerto Rico/Loses BIG on Super Tuesday 2

Suspends campaign to become King of Puerto Rico

In a stunning development, Florida Senator Marco Rubio announced today that he is suspending his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination to become the King of Puerto Rico.

Mr. Rubio’s made his announcement after he overwhelmingly won the Puerto Rican Republican primary with 71% of the vote but came in third in both Idaho and Hawaii and fourth in Michigan and Mississippi on Super Tuesday 2. Puerto Rican rules require a 70% vote threshold to become king.

After flying back Tuesday night, Rubio made an emotional speech in San Juan in front of his Puerto Rican supporters, saying, “I am thrilled by the results here in Puerto Rico, so much so that rather than continue to be rejected by the voters of almost all the U.S. states I intend to embrace the people of Puerto Rico by becoming your king.”

Mr. Rubio, who unlike his former opponent Ted Cruz, is fluent in Spanish, went on to say that as a Latino “Puerto Rico is an ideal place for me to continue my career," finishing by saying in Spanish, "Es bueno ser el rey" ("It's good to be King") to an adoring and cheering crowd.

Rubio said that he had also considered moving to the only state he won during the primaries, Minnesota, but two factors influenced his decision: As a Florida-based Cuban American, the Puerto Rican climate was more familiar to him and his family; and, most importantly, unlike Puerto Rico, he couldn’t be the king of Minnesota.

Reaction from his three remaining Republican opponents was swift and mostly congratulatory.

Ted Cruz said, “I applaud Marco’s decision and I wish him all the best in the future,” ending in pre-K level Spanish, “Vayo cono dias y buenos suertos” (kind of "Go with God "and "good luck," but not quite).

Donald Trump was as gracious as Donald Trump can be, congratulating Mr. Rubio on his choice, saying, “I’m thrilled that Little Marco has finally found a place to be in charge of, even if it’s just a little place.” Trump went on to say, “I agree with Marco that it’s good to be king and no one knows about being a king better than me, I guarantee it. Guarantee it.”

Governor John Kasich of Ohio could not be found, which is not uncommon for Governor Kasich
